300 Word Statement

I believe that my accomplishments, academic and personal record on and off of Lafayette College Campus demonstrate the dynamism and versatility that embodies the Lafayette ideal. As an International Affairs and Arab Studies major I have been exposed to a variety of viewpoints in the social sciences and humanities. This interdisciplinary major has given me a balanced and diversified view of global issues that I have coupled with a sound liberal Arts education to explore my other interests that include Islamic Architecture, Chemistry, and Flamenco dance.  In addition, to my academic exploration, I am an active member of the Lafayette Student body and engaged in an assortment of activities.    I have gauged the skill sets and knowledge I have gained from my experience at Lafayette College and have applied them on and off of campus. Providing day care services for a woman’s shelter in Easton, teaching English in rural communities in Silencio, Costa Rica to volunteering with a makeshift clinic in Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt- I feel that I have developed an understanding for the importance of activism and civic mindedness. It is not enough to have good grades or be the star athlete- rather, the Lafayette ideal is about how the individual demonstrates his/her abilities and knowledge towards a greater cause.
