300 Word Statement

From the Pre-Orientation Service Project through these last few weeks at Lafayette I have garnered a deep pride in our Pards and love for our community. My extensive scholastic and service work has showed me that Lafayette is a community filled with active citizens who are academically engaged and eager to broaden their moral and intellectual lives. Personally grabbing every opportunity for growth, I explored my passions by creating an interdisciplinary major, expanding tutoring and volunteer projects, and pioneering international exchange programs in Russia, Madagascar and Nepal. These experiences shape my Lafayette ideal into someone who not only seizes the day, but also creates opportunities for future generations to develop and push our boundaries of learning and engagement to new levels.

As a Resident Advisor and involved student in social justice programming such as ASB, I work with incredible students, athletes, leaders, and activists all across campus. I have been fortunate enough to connect with a wide breadth of Lafayette groups. With Landis I have become committed to a life of community service, with Greek life I have built foundations of sisterhood and tradition while valuing unselfish leadership, and in academic work I have grappled with theories of society and environmental sustainability.

Yes, I am a total nerd. But I am also an Easton citizen, a volunteer, a mentor, and a teacher. I am an artist, a yogi, and I love to laugh. I represent all of the dynamic and diverse leaders who walk across the quad every day. This Lafayette Ideal is everyone who encompasses values of excellence in a wonderfully complementary paradox of interests and identities. We are the unique intersections that would be unimaginable anywhere else. I will never lose my Lafayette identity as I continue to foster learning, service and accomplishment in my next communities.
